After the repeated complaints of the residents about the improper service of door to door garbage collection by the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD), officials have taken a step to ensure the proper management of this service. A complaint number has also been launched. The officials of Chennai based waste management company working on contract for the MCD for the task claim that it will implement the door to door garbage collection in a better way this time
When asked about it, project head of the Chennai based waste management company Mohit Dwivedi said, “We are all set to implement our service in the city. The main focus will be on the old 60 wards for now. Once the service becomes regularised, we will implement it in all the 100 wards. We have also received more vehicles for the waste pickup recently following which we now have a total of 90 such vehicles now. Every vehicle has a GPS system installed in it and we have also assigned a proper staff to monitor the vehicle to ensure whether it visited the designated place or not. Every vehicle is given a target to pick up garbage from 1,300 households in a single day
Adding further in this he said, “We have also started a Swachh Survekshan number which has been working for the last two days. A resident can complain via call or WhatsApp. The number is 9759900411 and a citizen’s complaint regarding door to door garbage collection on this number will be resolved as soon as possible. We have displayed the number on all the vehicles which will also make the people aware of it. We have received four to five complaints so far which are from the newly added wards. No complaints from the old wards have been received so far. We also have received around 300 dustbins in total for recyclable and non-recyclable waste which will be soon installed in the city
Giving more information about buying more machinery for implementing the garbage collection system Dwivedi said, “We will be buying 11 portable compactors soon for the garbage pickup service. These will be useful for picking up the garbage from the garbage point without littering the place. These compactors will be provided to us very soon
It is also pertinent to mention that the charge for the door to door garbage collection may be hiked next month. The current monthly charge for this service is Rs 50 which is likely to get raised to Rs 65 from next month
